Rotary Service Activities

Dave worked in the high-tech industry with IBM all his career. He embodies vocational service by
using his skills and knowledge at club, district and national level in administrative, marketing and PR
roles. He has been club secretary for 12 years and District IT officer for 11 years. Dave also served on
the RIBI Marketing, PR and Communications committee for four years. Outside of IT, Dave worked as
district Public Image Chair, enhancing the reputation and appeal of District 1060, particularly
through the website and social media. In addition, Dave is heavily involved in Youth activities,
through the Young Photographer competition, which he has run for several years at club level and is
the club co-ordinator for the Interact Club at the local academy. He is also a key member of a joint
committee with Rugby Dunsmore Club, jointly organising charity 10K races locally.

Non-Rotary Service Activities

Outside of Rotary, the good work continues, with Code Club, teaching software skills in primary
schools and libraries, with STEM activities as an Ambassador and a lead judge in Robotics
competitions and, until recently as Group Executive Chairman with a local Scout group,
acknowledged by the Scout Association with an Outstanding Service Award. Dave is a father,
grandfather and husband and supporter to Gillian, the local vicar covering a number of churches!
Dave is on the committee of Southam 1st; a formally constituted group of local volunteers who are
working to make Southam a place people want to live, work, shop and visit. He also manages the
community web-site - southam.co.uk a vital resource for people looking for local activities and
events.

This candidate embodies Service Above Self

With Dave, actions speak louder than words. He does not seek any acknowledgement or limelight
for the work he does, he just gets on with it. Dave is the district IT expert, it’s hard to know how the
district would function without his skills. If there are any tech questions, it’s always “ask Dave”! per
the previous list of roles, he has used his skills, to great effect at club, district and regional level. At a
club level, as secretary for the last 12 years, he is the beacon the club works around; keeping the
club compliant with all rules and procedures, keeping DMS and Club central up to date. He also
works hard with youth activities, being the club contact for Young Photographer and the link to the
Interact club at a local academy. It's hard to think of anyone who works so hard, but seeks so little re
cognition, I'm delighted to put Dave forward for the award.
